The Tanzania e-Visa is an electronic visa introduced by the Government of Tanzania in 2018 to simplify the visa application process for citizens of eligible countries.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid passport till the end of their stay, and be free of convictions for drug trafficking or terrorism-related crimes.
The Tanzania e-Visa is a single tourist visa, valid for a maximum of 30 days after arrival and is non-renewable. The exception is the United States. All US citizens must apply online for a one-year, multiple-entry visa.
Application form must be submitted at least 10 days before the planned travel date and you can apply by following a simple 3 step process online and have your e-visa in PDF form at your email address.
Tanzania e-Visas can be divided into two types based on the intended use of the holder. Eligible citizens of various countries can choose to:
- e-Tourist Visa: Permits you to do all tourism-related trips, such as getting to know Tanzania, getting to know the sights. This includes visiting family/friends.
- Transit visa: Can be used for all transit purposes. This allows all visitors to stay in Tanzania for 7 days when traveling to another country. Use by tourists is not permitted.
Both permissions are one-time only. An online tourist visa allows for 30 days stay and 7 days transit.

- Tourist e-Visa: This entry permit is valid from the date you plan to enter Tanzania. All applicants specify the date they wish to enter Tanzania and the validity period begins on that date. You can stay for an additional 30 days after arrival.

- Multiple Entry e-Visa (U.S. Citizens Only): U.S. citizens must apply for a multi entry visa and that is valid for one year fro mthe travel date to Tanzania. It is valid for 90 days.

Processing may take up to 10 business days. Please ensure that it is accurate as it must also include your expected arrival date in Tanzania.
After arrival at the port you need tio have two important documents to present to the customs officers
- Passport valid for 6 months

The customs officials give a passport stamp with the stated date of returning to your country of origin.

Important Information
- Each applicant must have a valid passport for six months prior to the intended date of arrival in Tanzania.
- The validity of the Tanzania e-Visa starts from the date of entry (as indicated in the online questionnaire).
- The Tanzania e-Visa is not issued for business or employment purposes (this requires the applicant to visit the embassy and apply for a regular visa).
