Sri Lanka e-Visa: Basic information

ETA Sri Lanka is an electronic travel certificate issued by the Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration department on January 1, 2012 to foreigners who wish to enter or pass through Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has introduced an e-visa system to help international travelers obtain the required visa in the easiest way through online application.

ETA will allow you to enter Sri Lanka twice within 30 days of your travel date (or the shorter of the expiration dates).

ETA Sri Lanka can be divided into three types:, tourist visas and transit visas, trade visas

Citizens of the eligible country must apply for a Sri Lankan visa using the online application form.

Average online processing time for Sri Lanka ETA is 24 hours after application submission.

You have to pay USD 73 for one application.

Important Update

The Government of Sri Lanka need all arriving tourists to fulfill the Sri Lankan Health Declaration within 48 hours of their expected arrival.

All travelers over the age of 15 must complete a separate form, and travelers under the age of 15 must submit a health certificate completed by their parent or legal guardian.

Sri Lankan authorities will provide each passenger filling out the online form with a PDF confirmation and QR code. Confirmation will be emailed and must be presented upon arrival in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s ETA  can consist of three different types. Each of them is designed for different purposes. Choose the type of entry visa that best suits your travel needs.

Applicants can choose:

  • A tourist visa is a two-time entry visa for tourism that allows you to stay in the country for 30 days.
  • A business visa is a two-time entry teade visa that allows you to stay in Sri Lanka for a total of 30 days.
  • A transit visa as a two-day entry visa to pass through Sri Lanka on the way to another final destination.

Sri Lanka Visa Application Guide:

Note! This Process can take less than a day, but the average processing time is 23 hours! You must apply 3 days before departure.

Tourism and trade ETAs are valid for 6 months (180 days) from the date of issue. Both permits allow access to Sri Lanka and a total stay of 30 days.

Note! Second time you need to enter into Sri Lanka within 30 days of the first entry.

Transit ETA is stays effective for 6 months, but owners can stay for up to 2 days in the country to reach their final destination. This allows you to wait up to 48 hours.

Those traveling to other countries via Sri Lanka must apply for an electronic visa before visiting Sri Lanka.
