Visa Requirements for Myanmar Citizens

Visa requirements for Myanmar nationals are the instructions and conditions that apply when passing through certain foreign countries.

Myanmar citizens wishing to travel abroad must have a regular visa from the embassy, ​​a visa on arrival, an e-visa, or a valid passport. (Under visa exemption, if possible).

The default requirements determine the type of travel permit required before a Myanmar citizen visits. Unluckily, Myanmar citizens do not have much freedom to travel abroad as most countries require a valid embassy visa to be presented upon arrival.

Almost, nearly 50 destinations have made it possible to obtain a visa on arrival or to enter Myanmar citizens completely without a visa. In addition, about 30 countries offer e-visa options.

Despite all these conveniences, Myanmar citizens need to obtain a visa from the embassy when visiting more than 130 countries.

All four visa schemes allow Myanmar citizens to travel for vacations, work or transit related purposes. However, the activities allowed may vary and usually depend on the type of visa you choose for your particular system.

Generally, you can travel on an e-visa, post-arrival visa, and visa-free trip is allowed for a trade, vacations, and transit type trips.

In addition, you must be able to travel to find new work opportunities and sign new contracts and make a new deal. Finally, all three visa systems allow travelers to have a break by while passing.

The last visa system we are discussing is the embassy visa. They are more difficult to obtain and often come with a wide range of requirements that must be met. Embassy visas may also be issued for long trips such as work or study abroad, so the use of this permit  may vary.

Electronic Visa

Start with eVisa, the best visa system for travelers. An e-visa is an electronic alternate to a regular visa, either sent as a PDF file to the applicant’s email or linked directly to the traveler’s passport.

To apply for an electronic visa, you usually only need access to a valid passport that will not expire within 6 months, valid email address and online payment method. You can easily apply at home or on the go from your mobile phone, laptop, PC or tablet.

Caution! Electronic visas are only available for short stays. The exact length of your stay depends on the destination you choose. However, it is usually 30, 60, 90, or 180 days, and there are other less common options. Each country decides this and determines the acceptable time of visit with an electronic visa.

As mentioned above, electronic visas are available for all short stays related to sightseeing, trade or transit. Visa on Arrival

Myanmar nationals can also travel on a visa upon arrival. VoA is a travel permit issued upon arrival in a certain country. Travelers are required to receive a visa application upon arrival at the border crossing

Now, 25 countries provide visas on arrival for Myanmar citizens. If you want to visit any of the above destinations, you need to apply for a visa on arrival. However, some of these countries also offer electronic visas to Myanmar citizens.

To simplify your trip and easily get the visa you need, check to see if your country has an e-visa option. Applying for an e-visa in advance will relieve the stress of getting a visa at the last minute and make you safer. If possible, get ready to travel with an e-visa!

However, if the selected address has no options for an evisa or VOA. so below are some guideline for how to get approved visa on arrival.

  1. First, a few weeks before your visit, check to see if there are any VOA requirements that Myanmar travelers must meet on arrival. The authorities of the selected destination may request some documents certifying the purpose of the stay. Therefore, you need to know in advance what you need.
  2. Have the required documents (if applicable) and a valid Myanmar passport ready. Also, travel documents must be valid during the planned trip to avoid problems on arrival. Make sure the expiration date is yours before traveling
  3. When you are ready to arrive, proceed to the nearest checkpoint and ask your customs officer to help filling out a visa application form upon arrival.
  4. After filling the form, submit it with all required documents (if applicable), and pay the fee if requested by the authorities. Caution! Visa fees may be collected in cash and local currency upon arrival. Please check if this applies to your selected destination and, if so, change your currency before arrival.
  5. Wait for the request to be approved.

Embassy Visa

The last type of visa that Myanmar citizens need to apply for when visiting more than 100 countries is the embassy visa. An embassy visa is a regular travel permit, such as a  stamp in traveler’s passport, issued by the embassy of the destination of your choice.

Myanmar passport owners are required to obtain a visa from the embassy when visiting the above countries. This visa cannot be acquired online and usually need a more complex and time-consuming application process.

It is also important to review the visa requirements that apply there, as you will need to apply for a visa at the embassy to visit these destinations. Call or visit your selected destination to learn more about your current visa requirements. In this way, you can be sure that the documents you collect are likely to complete paperwork and be actively approved by national authorities.

Myanmar citizens can visit countries without a visa in only 13 countries. A passport is required to ensure that you are not blocked from entering any of the above countries.

Since Myanmar is a member of ASEAN (Southeast Asia countries), you can access all countries except Malaysia without a visa.
